Location and Uses
Breath of the Wild
Windcleavers are theWeapon of choice among high-ranking members of theYiga Clan.[1] Proficient fighters are able to use this Weapon to cleave the veryWind, creating a vacuum.[1] They are wielded byYiga Blademasters, who can be found in theYiga Clan Hideout and throughoutHyrule Kingdom. These swords belong to theYiga Clan Gear equipment archetype, which includes all Weapons created by the Yiga.[3]
Windcleavers have a unique property amongst melee Weapons where swinging them causes a short range projectile to be emitted forwards from the blade. This projectile can be used a few times before the blade must recharge. Similar to theEightfold Longblade, the Windcleaver also has a unique charged attack. Rather than spinning around with the Weapon,Link will draw the Windcleaver back and then slash forwards at considerable speed, knocking largeEnemies over and sending smaller ones flying. This charged attack also releases a projectile which increases in size, duration and damage depending on how long the charge is held, dealing a minimum of 10 damage and a maximum of 40. The Windcleaver also possesses a minor hidden property which causes it to fly in a straight line for a short time when it is thrown with theR Button.
As part of "The Weapon Connoisseur"Side Quest,Nebb will askLink to show him a Windcleaver, which he has heard is not common aroundHateno Village.[4] If Link brings him one, Nebb will be excited and give him aSilver Rupee as a reward.[5][6]
Being made of metal, Windcleavers will conductElectricity and attractLightning when equipped duringThunderstorms. They also are unable to be burned byFire or aScorching Climate, but they can be picked up using theMagnesisRune. If they are dropped inWater, they will sink.
