Location and Uses
Braziers are often found withincaves ordungeons. They have a variety of uses from illuminating the surrounding area to being a key aspect in solving a puzzle or unlocking a hidden secret. Because of their nature of being lit or unlit, dungeons and other areas can be designed with the prospect of Link having to take advantage of this-lighting them to cause an event or sequence like unlocking a door or revealing aTreasure Chest.
Outside of being decorative, Torches are primarily used in puzzles. They can be lit by using a fire source such as a burningDeku Stick, aFire Arrow, theFire Rod,Din's Fire, or theLamp. Sometimes they can only be lit by pressing aswitch or clearing a room of enemies. In dark areas,Link can light a Torch to light up the room.
Some torches known asFace Lamps can appear as traps shooting fireballs at Link, similar toMedusas. They are usually invulnerable to any form of attack. Additionally, InPhantom Hourglass, some of them can be deactivated by hitting a nearby switch, or defeating all the enemies in the room.
Torches vary across the series from housing a simple group of sticks tied together as well as more elaborately designed metal ones.Twilight Princess has the most variety of Torch designs in the series, with various wooden Torches, stone Torches, and other, more ancient-themed Torches.

The Minish Cap
Torches serve as simple decorative objects, sources of light,Switches, andEnemies inThe Minish Cap. Some (such as four inDeepwood Shrine and the four hidden inTrees inNorth Hyrule Field) are directly connected toStep Switches, which, when stepped on, illuminate the Torches and produce some kind of effect. Others (such as those in theFortress of Winds, theTemple of Droplets, and thePalace of Winds) shoot balls of energy atLink, damaging him. These attacks can be blocked with theSmall Shield.

Breath of the Wild
Torches are a commonItem thatLink can use to carry Fire with him and spread that Fire to stationary Torches and other flammable objects such as grass, bushes, and wood. Torches can also be used as aWeapon, but they have a very low attack power of 2. After being ignited by contact with a Fire, Torches stay lit until Link puts the Torch away or it rains.[12] Torches are useful for navigating dark areas, such as theThyphlo Ruins. Being made of wood, they will not attractLightning during aThunderstorm, and they do not conductElectricity. They will float inWater if dropped.
After first exiting theShrine of Resurrection and meeting theOld Man on theGreat Plateau, Link can steal the Old Man's Torch. He will then ask Link what he intends to use it for.[17] If Link replies saying that he plans to use it as a Weapon, the Old Man will advise him to take hisWoodcutter's Axe instead.[18] If Link tells him that he plans to use it to light Fires, the Old Man will tell him to be cautious.[19] If Link refuses to tell the Old Man what he plans to do with the Torch, he will tell him to do as he pleases and will let him be.[20]
Link can find Torches in theLost Woods, which can aid him in navigating the area by lighting Torches and watching the direction the Fire blows with the wind. Torches are also useful for lighting all of theBlue Flame Pedestals around theHateno Ancient Tech Lab and theAkkala Ancient Tech Lab withBlue Flame, as Link must travel long distances without the Fire burning out.
Torches belong to theDaily Use Goods equipment archetype, which consists of unconventional Weapons that Link can make use of.[21]

Torches allowCadence,Link,Yves, orZelda to see in the dark, light up braziers, and burn stumps that may be blocking their path.[22] However, they have a limited use and go out over time, forcing the heroes to switch between different kinds of torches in order to light their way through caves and dungeons. They can be found in redTreasure Chests, dropped by slain enemies, or bought from aShopkeeper for 10Rupees. After aGame Over, Torches can also be found at theFate's shop selling for 1Diamond.
