The Spring of Wisdom is anAncient Hylian Ruin located at the peak ofMount Lanayru.[4] A pathway up Mount Lanayru leads travelers directly to the Spring, which is surrounded by jaggedIce formations. It is a shallow pool ofWater that flows into two smallWaterfalls at either side of its entrance. There is aGoddess Statue at its center known as theSpring of Wisdom Statue, whereLink can exchange fourSpirit Orbs for eitherHeart Containers orStamina Vessels.[5] Due to being within aFreezing Climate, Link will take damage at the Spring of Wisdom unless he has two levels ofCold Resistance. Since ancient times, theDragon,Naydra, has served the Spring.[6][7]

Prior to the secondGreat Calamity, the Spring of Wisdom was the final spring thatZelda visited, since those under the age of 17 are not wise enough to climb Mount Lanayru.[8][9] On the day of her 17th birthday, Zelda visited the Spring of Wisdom.[9][10] However, she failed to awaken her sealing power, and she and Link can be seen returning from this journey during the "Return of Calamity Ganon"Recovered Memory.[9][11]

InHateno Village, Link can askMedda about Mount Lanayru, who believes that theRoyal Family of Hyrule could have a hidden treasure at the Spring of Wisdom.[12] After listening to him, "The Spring of Wisdom"Shrine Quest will begin. When Link first arrives at the Spring of Wisdom, he will findMalice Naydra, a form of Naydra after she has been corrupted byMalice.Hylia speaks to him through the Spring of Wisdom Statue, revealing that she has been afflicted by an attack fromCalamity Ganon.[13] She tasks Link with destroying theGlowing Eyeballs and freeing Naydra.[14] After Link shoots one of the Glowing Eyeballs on Malice Naydra, she will fly away from the Spring of Wisdom.

Once Naydra has been purified, Link will automatically return to the Spring of Wisdom. As a final task, Hylia instructs Link to shoot Naydra with anArrow.[15] When he does so, Naydra will fly off, but not before dropping one of herScales to the ground.[16][17] Link is then told to offer Naydra's Scale to the Spring of Wisdom.[18] Doing this will open the door toJitan Sa'mi Shrine behind the Statue.[19][20]

After being freed, Naydra will appear above the Spring of Wisdom at 5:00 AM and 5:00 PM everyday. However, she will not do so if Link is at the Spring during these times.
