Smith
The finest swordsmith in Hyrule. As a young man, he was a great swordsman.
He and King Daltus are friends and enjoyed a pleasant rivalry as youths.

Smith isLink's grandfather.[4][3] He creates theSmith's Sword for the winner of theSword-Fighting Tournament at thePicori Festival.[5][6] He was once a great swordsman and now is a renowned blacksmith. He is close friends withKing Daltus,[7] and even fought with him to a draw in a previous Sword-Fighting Tournament.[8] Throughout the game, Smith can be found inLink's House inSouth Hyrule Field makingSwords,[9] and only leaves the House to go toHyrule Castle afterPrincess Zelda is turned to stone byVaati. Here, Smith suggests that King Daltus send Link to seek out theMinish,[10] and gives Link aMap of Hyrule to find his way to theMinish Woods.[11]

Throughout the game, Link can return to his House and speak with Smith, who offers insight on where Link should go next on his journey. While attempting to crossCastor Wilds, he suggests visitingRem's Shoe Store;[12] after Link obtains theOcarina of Wind, he suggests visiting theRoyal Hyrule Library;[13] after Link obtains theWater Element, he suggests going to theRoyal Valley;[14] after Link obtains a goldKinstone Piece from the spirit ofGustaf in theRoyal Crypt, he suggests going toVeil Falls.[15]

When Link finds theGreat Dragonfly Fairy, she asks him "Your grandfather's name is Smee, isn't it?" to see if Link will agree to a lie.

Link canFuseKinstone Pieces with Smith twice;[16] the first time results in aChest containing anEmpty Bottle appearing in theEastern Hills, and the second time results in a Chest containing a red Kinstone Piece appearing inTrilby Highlands.
