Iron Boots
Use the Iron Boots to walk on the bottom of Lake Hylia.

The Iron Boots can be found in theIce Cavern nearZora's Fountain inOcarina of Time. When equipped, they makeLink walk slower due to their extreme weight,[3] but he can descend to the bottom of lakes and other sources of water.[4] Link must wear theZora Tunic in order to stay underwater; otherwise, a timer will appear and, if he does not take off the boots and resurface before time runs out, he will drown. They are required to traverse the deep water in theWater Temple, and are also useful in theShadow Temple, as they enable Link to walk against the fan currents.

InOcarina of Time 3D, the Iron Boots are changed from equipment to an item, simplifying their use.

The Wind Waker

The Iron Boots are found inside a cave in theIce Ring Isle inThe Wind Waker. Link can use the Iron Boots to avoid being blown away by the wind,[5] making them required for theWind Temple. They also allow him to activatespringboards by wearing the boots and then taking them off. Additionally, wearing the Iron Boots and using theHookshot on some statues allows Link to pull them down. Unlike inOcarina of Time, the boots cannot be used to sink beneath the water, as they are automatically unequipped should Link enter deep water.

Twilight Princess

InTwilight Princess, the Iron Boots are given to Link byMayor Bo in the latter's house inOrdon Village after defeating him in aSumo match. They are an item assignable to specific buttons. They are used to ward off theGorons while ascendingDeath Mountain,[6] to prevent Link from being knocked about by steam jets and to defeatGor Coron,Dangoro andFyrus.

In theGoron Mines, the Iron Boots are needed to allow Link to walk on magnetic roofs and walls,[7] to weigh down large platforms that open gates and to depressFloor Switches. They are also required to complete theLakebed Temple, as they allow Link to useWater Bombs while underwater. In theCity in the Sky, they can be used to hold Link steady in strong gusts of wind. Link can also roll with them equipped and hurt enemies.

Other Appearances

My Nintendo Picross: Twilight Princess

The following section is not part of the Zelda canon and should not be taken as such.

The thirteenth puzzle in thePicross series and the twelfth puzzle in theMega Picross series depict Iron Boots.

Cadence of Hyrule

The following section is not part of the Zelda canon and should not be taken as such.

The Iron Boots appear in Cadence of Hyrule as a temporary item that can be found in random locations, which negates the effects of icy surfaces and shallow waters, allowing the user to walk over them as though they were regular floors.[2] Upon being defeated, or the gauge of its usage being depleted, the boots will wear out and be lost to the player until they can find a new pair. They can be bought from aShopkeeper for 80Rupees or found as loot from redTreasure Chests.

Trivia

  • A pair of boots called the Water Boots were set to appear inThe Wind Waker.[8] They were possibly an earlier version of the Iron Boots or a separate version which would allow Link to sink underwater.[9]
  • InTwilight Princess the Iron Boots will remain equipped during certain cutscenes (such as Zant's attack at Lake Hylia), and will continue to making their loud clanging sound whenever Link walks.
  • InHyrule Warriors, the design ofLinkle'sWinged Boots andRoc Boots are based on the Iron Boots fromOcarina of Time andTwilight Princess, respectively.
