TheHylian Crest is a recurring symbol inThe Legend of Zelda series.[1][name references needed] It is the mark of the GoddessHylia and a crest of theRoyal Family of Hyrule.[2][3] The Hylian Crest is commonly used onHylian weapons, armour, and architecture; most notably it appears on theHylian Shield, where it represents theCrimson Loftwing that was ridden bythe hero during theSky Era.[2] It is similar to theWingcrest of the Hyrulean Royal Family, both being derived from theGoddess Crest used in the ancientEra of Hylia.

A Link to the Past

Depictions of avian figures similar to the Hylian Crest appeared inA Link to the Past, where artwork of theFighter's Shield andRed Shield both show a stylized bird below theTriforce. Another winged figure is shown above the doorway of theSanctuary.

Ocarina of Time

The current design of the Hylian Crest first appears inOcarina of Time, shown in multiple locations within the game. The Hylian Shield of the Knights of Hyrule has the Crest with the Triforce above it and an inverted triangle below it.[2] The clothing and jewelry worn byPrincess Zelda has designs including the Hylian Crest with other symbols such as the Triforce and theCrest of the Sheikah.[4]

The Wind Waker

InThe Wind Waker the Hylian Crest can be seen in the background ofa painting inHyrule Castle.

Twilight Princess

WithinTwilight Princess, the Hylian Crest is displayed on the Hylian Shield, on Zelda's dress, and on suits of armour inHyrule Castle.

Spirit Tracks

InSpirit Tracks, when Princess Zelda's spirit assumes control of aPhantom, a glowing pink Hylian Crest appears on its back.

Skyward Sword

The Hylian Crest is in multiple locations inSkyward Sword, including on the Hylian Shield, in theTemple of Time, and on an awakenedGate of Time. The Hylian Crest also appears on the game's logo.Skyward Sword also features its likely precursor, the Goddess Crest.

A Link Between Worlds

InA Link Between Worlds the Crest is shown on the Hylian Shield.[2]

Breath of the Wild

The Hylian Crest is in many locations inBreath of the Wild. It is displayed throughoutHyrule Castle on banners, in sculptures, on the floor of theSanctum, among other locations.[5] The Crest is displayed onWeapons,Shields, andArmor used byHyrule's Military, such as the Hylian Shield,Royal Guard's Series,Royal Guard Set, theSoldier's Set, and theKnight's Shield.[6]
