Features and Overview
AfterSakon steals theSun's Mask fromKafei, Kafei takes up residence inside the Back Room of theCuriosity Shop. As he does not want to return to his fiancée in his condition without the Sun's Mask,[2] he decides to remain in the Back Room while watching for Sakon through a peephole in the wall connecting the Curiosity Shop and its Back Room.[3]
For most ofLink's stay inTermina, the Curiosity Shop Back Room is inaccessible, with the only entrance being a door in theLaundry Pool, which Kafei keeps locked. If Link meets withAnju and delivers theLetter to Kafei to aMailbox,[4] he can slip by Kafei and enter his residence as thePostman delivers the Letter to him in person. After Kafei reads the Letter, he will return to the Back Room, leaving it unlocked while waiting to meet with the green-clad child described in the Letter.[5] If Link agrees to keep his whereabouts hidden from Anju, Kafei will confide his story to Link before asking him to deliver thePendant of Memories to Anju as an affirmative symbol of their relationship.[6][7]
If Link has not stopped Sakon from stealing theBomb Bag from theOld Lady from Bomb Shop, Kafei will watch Sakon sell it to theMan from Curiosity Shop before following him toSakon's Hideout inIkana Canyon. Afterwards, the Man from Curiosity Shop can be found inside the Curiosity Shop Back Room waiting for Link. There, he informs Link about Kafei's departure and asks him to deliver theSpecial Delivery to Mama from Kafei toMadame Aroma on his behalf.[8][9][10] He will also give theKeaton Mask to Link after explaining that he once gave it to Kafei long ago and that Kafei used it to convince him of his peculiar neotenic condition.[11]
