A Link to the Past
The Book of Mudora is a collection of ancientHylian lore and stories,[3] as well as a guide to translating the ancientHylian Language that appears throughout the land ofHyrule.[4] It is found in aHouse of Books south ofKakariko Village. To obtain it,Link must bash the bookcase holding it with thePegasus Shoes. The Book of Mudora allows Link to read the text in front of theMaster Sword's pedestal, to enter theDesert Palace by making theWish of Opening, and to obtain theEther Medallion and theBombos Medallion fromHylian Monoliths.

A Link to the Past (Ishinomori)

In theA Link to the Past comic byShotaro Ishinomori, Link finds the Book of Mudora after he saves theLibrarian from the burning House of Books. Once the fire ceases from the library, the librarian theorizes thatAgahnim's soldiers might have been after the Book of Mudora,[2] and explains that it is the key to the ancient Hylian language which mentions that the hero will stand in the desert holding the book.[5] Link takes the Book of Mudora and mentions howSahasrahla had told him thePendant of Power was in desert ruins,[6] leading the librarian to claim Link as the legendary Hero of Hyrule and calmly leaving the book in the hero's hands.[7]
When Link reaches theDesert of Mystery, he uses the Book of Mudora to translate the runes written upon the ruins of theDesert Palace.[8] Upon doing so, the ruins begin to sink to reveal a scorpion statue that has the Pendant of Power hanging on it.[9]
The Legend of Zelda (Flash Game)
According toThe Legend of Zelda Flash game, Ganondorf learned how to obtain theTriforce from the Book of Mudora prior to the events ofOcarina of Time.[10]
