Breath of the Wild

Main article:Armor in Breath of the Wild

Armor serves a variety of purposes, primarily to provideLink with defensive padding, allowing him to endure more damage. Damage numbers are shown numerically inBreath of the Wild, albeit indirectly. Each unit of damage normally deals a quarter of aHeart to Link. For example, an attack with a power of 4 will damage Link by one full Heart. By wearing Armor, Link can decrease the amount of damage he takes. Each piece of Armor has a numeric rating that contributes to Link's overall Defense. The higher Link's Defense, the less damage he will take fromEnemy attacks. Wearing Armor subtracts the attack's strength value by Link's total defense value. Wearing Armor with a defense rating greater than or equal to the strength of the attack will reduce that damage to a quarter of a Heart, and no matter his defense, Link takes at least a quarter of a Heart of damage from any attack. Armors often pair with other pieces to formArmor Sets.

Certain pieces of Armor also provideAdded Effects that can boost Link's attack, movement speed onSnow,Sand, throughWater, or whileClimbing, boost his stealth capabilities, or protect him from the environment. Environmental hazards includeLightning,Fire, heat,Ice, and the cold. Most clothing can be enhanced up to four times by the revivedGreat Fairies, with the number of available upgrades dependent on how many Great Fairies have been restored. Each upgrade comes with a certain cost ofMaterials. Armor Sets that have been enhanced at least twice may provideSet Bonuses.

If Link has no Armor on, some characters make a passing comment or directly acknowledge this.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

Extra pieces of Armor were added in theExpansion Pass DLC, and some pieces can also be gained by scanning certainamiibo on theWii U andNintendo Switch consoles.

There are 107 pieces of Armor available to collect overall, of which Link can carry a maximum of 100 pieces in hisInventory at any one time.
