On Sunday, three unions announced further industrial action as part of a broadpressure campaign against the government’s planned labour market reforms, which they say could set workers’ rights back by decades.

The Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL), said it will organise a walkout at Helsinki Airport’s security checkpoints next Thursday. According to JHL, the walkout will interrupt security checks between 1:30 and 2:00 pm.

According to airport operator Finavia, the airport’s passenger volume is usually highest between 5 and 8 am and between 2 and 6 pm.

The walkout is a political expression of opinion against the government's actions and is not aimed at the employer or the valid collective agreement, the union said on Sunday.

Pro and Industrial Union target same firms

The Trade Union Pro will organise hour-long stoppages at various companies on the same day. Employees are to expression dissatisfaction with the new government’s labour policies by leaving work an hour early. The targeted workplaces include Fortum’s Loviisa nuclear power plant and all Gasum facilities.

Members of the Industrial Union will also down tools for an hour next Thursday at 10 workplaces in the Uusimaa region, including many of the same firms targeted by Pro, including Hartwall, Vaisala, Teknos and Mitsubishi. That follows a series planned work stoppages in Lapland and Oulu on Thursday, in the southwest on Wednesday and eastern Finland on Thursday.
