just curious , since every post has a "report" button and there is a "spam reporting" thread , which would mods rather see used?

It probably varies by moderator. I respond mostly to reports.

Good evening,@mrrocketdog Thanks for your interesting question.

I'd view it from this position. The "spam thread" is more meant to report spam accounts but not posts. For this reason the spam thread is subscribed by many Senior Moderators (SM) to immediately address such accounts. I don't know if any of our Forum Specific Moderators (FSM) have subscribed to that thread because FSM don't have powers to ban an account.

On the other hand, the report button of a post guarantees that the next available FSM (or SM) is alerted if the post violates any of the forum rules be it non-English, bad conduct etc.

Please feel free to contact me privately if my explanation is unclear.

My assumption has been, when I report a post, the mod handling it will ALWAYS review other posts by that user. Expectably since a lot of spam post involve a "new user", and spam by definition means ... errr ... spamming.

Thats the other benefit for me. The report button serves a double purpose. And you kinda confirm that the report button would be handled more diligently. You yourself prefer it, so you may be biased.

Out of interest, I have a vague memory, that the previous forum software, had a rule that new users couldn't post URL links until after they had reach a specific number of posts. Is that crazy talk?

You are correct DJ. We mods called it TPC (ten post count) before any new member could post links or participate in a Dev thread.
Ah, the good ole days.👍👍

Not youtube. Youtube music is DIFFERENT. There may be songs not on YT but in YT Music.

Idk but that SONG was by Joyful - Topic, that may be the issue, so it is generally reccomended to have one
All the links I posted come from Youtube Music, I don't know what you are doing.

I KNOW what I am doing. I want that for everything cuz making yt music compatiblity better. Your link was from Joyful, not Joyful - Topic
All the approved media sites are these:

YouTube Music is included as YouTube I guess... All links I tried working fine as@NOSS8 already mentioned.

However, even if it wasn't included, this wasn't going to happen like anything else in XDA which requires even the minimum code change. Last year I asked to add GIF Tenor on the approved sites butthis is the answer I got, and this is the answer for every change on XDA these days.

Nothing gonna be changed...try to contact Valnet. I doubt they will reply.

I'd like to request for thetopic I created regarding the newly announced Android Canary channel to be cross-posted/redirect links added created to all of the Pixel phone categories that are currently supported, due to the discussion being relevant to all of them. I wasn't able to decide which category to initially post it in so I went with general. Even then it still feels like it doesn't really fit as this is specific to a subset Pixel devices, it was the best I could think of. Unless there does happen to be a better one that I missed it could be moved to?

I know that would make for quite a lot of redirects, perhaps the most that has ever been created for a single topic on XDA being that it would encompass 15 phone models (though some share a single category which reduces the number a bit), I hope that shouldn't be an issue? It is kind of big news after all that I would say justifies/warrants it to give it a reason aside from just relevance.

Oh for sure you are not the only one with a lot of redirects to a single topic😝
The friendly@Badger50 had helped me in the past, to cross-post myGalaxy S4 Collection & Guides to all the variants of it....and they were a lot! But any mod could help with this.

You could also save some time from mods and do it alone, by creating threads to each of the Pixel devices and redirect them to your main thread.
Then ask mods to close these threads, so any conversation which will happen, to be on your main thread-topic and not being split..

Haha, good to know as I was a little worried what I was asking for might have been kinda unreasonable.

For some reason I had it in my head that a redirect link existed as a separate object from a thread, but I only just remembered how one moderation tool that forums typically have is to close and merge a thread with another, with an option of creating a redirect link to the merged thread. (Like many I rarely visit forums compared to the past). Unless there happened to be a "Create link to" posting option which I don't think I've ever seen a forum have, I guess the only way is to create and then close and redirect the threads? Just one of the cumbersome reasons why the internet outgrew forums I guess (though as a side note, I personally view Discourse to be what would happen if you created a forum software but combine it with the things that made other discussion platforms popular. It's just too bad that it still won't ever be able to reach the heights it once used to).

Anyway, I went ahead and created the topics, self-reporting as I went. Thanks@Badger50 for diligently seeing to them. The only downside was how many times I broke the matrix by continually hitting the limit for creating new topics in quick succession.😝

You know actually, perhaps having separate topics would have been better as people might have preferred to want to talk abut how it was on their device specifically. Ah well. They can still do it in the one shared topic, and create separate threads when new builds come out.

No need to discuss. The closed threads will definitely not be pinned in the area of responsibility of my team. Sorry for that.

Hello moderators and administrators.
I've been on this forum for a few years, and I've noticed after reading the rules and following them.
One essential thing is missing: politeness. When I look at some members' posts, they're unable to say "Hello" or "Good evening" or even "Good morning."
As a regular forum member, "Hello" is something I do every day, right? So, applying it on the forum is more pleasant.
Saying hello at the beginning of a post isn't complicated, is it? It's six extra letters to write.
Hello is something I reserve for face to face, on first meeting for the day. I don't wish to read it at the start of every post. I see threads are almost like acontinued conversation; the same single conversation, that may go on for multiple days. So saying "hello" at the start of every post, on a continuing thread, would be similar to saying hello at the start of every sentence. Things get a little different with the introduction threads or the "Post anything, newbie friendly" where the one thread crosses many ideas & conversations. Its also just the way forum boards work. i.e. common forum etiquette doesn't require a hello on every post. Yu go for it, but I am not going to start on my dev threads which have many many posts. And if the response is a "no", saying "hello, no" ?

'lo (hello)

Politeness is covered by all of Rule 2, but I doubt if we're going to start requiring greetings. So many questions would have to be answered to specify this. How often? The first time a user ever posts on XDA? The first time they post in a thread? The first time they post per day? Do they need to re-greet every six hours if they're making new posts, to reflect a different order of the "good morning/afternoon/evening/night"? Does it have to be sincere? Will we test the level of sincerity? Et cetera.

Personally, I don't want to see greetings very often.

Next it'll be expected for us to smile while we're posting.

Last 3-4 of my 6 post reports have been dismissed without even getting "review"ed (I checked back the post by clicking on "report post" button and it doesnt even show "this post has been reported" notice). What could be reason to this? I want to think that it is not personal...

They were reviewed. Sometimes moderators take no action, as they think that none is required. It's not personal, don't worry about it:)

Hello and thank you for the forum! I can't add to My Devices that I have a Xiaomi Redmi 4A. A bug in the forum software?

I am unable to private message anyone on xda website, only the option to send by email.

    What do you mean?

What way are you trying to send a Private message?

You can go to yourPM Inbox and New Private Message, and send a PM to anyone.

But if you click on someone's username in the forums, and you don't see the Private Message option, that person has disabled allowing other members to send them a PM.
