Emerging Infectious Diseases, an open access, peer reviewed journal published monthly by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, promotes the recognition of new and reemerging infectious diseases around the world and improves the understanding of factors involved in disease emergence, prevention, and elimination. The journal is intended for professionals in infectious diseases and related sciences and welcomes contributions from infectious disease specialists in academia, industry, clinical practice, and public health, and from specialists in economics, social sciences, and other disciplines.

The journal's independent peer review process allows for critical assessment of submitted manuscripts by experts who are usually not part of its editorial staff. The conclusions, findings, and opinions expressed by authors contributing toEmerging Infectious Diseases do not necessarily reflect the official position of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Public Health Service, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or the authors' affiliated institutions.

Emerging Infectious Diseases is an open access journal in the public domain. All content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Materials published in EID, including text, figures, tables, and photographs, can be reprinted or reused although the journal requests a proper citation be included for its content and users clearly indicate what, if any, changes have been made.
