    Biography

    • Started career in gymnastics, training for the 1980 Olympics; fell from the uneven parallel bars and landed on her neck; was in full cast for 6 months; tennis racket was a get well present from her sister; three months after getting out of the hospital, she entered her first tennis tournament while still wearing a head, neck and body brace...Coached by the late Harry Hopman, who took her on without a coaching fee when Bonnie wrote an imploring letter to 50 coaches after her gymnastics accident (he was the only one to help)...A conscientious member of the community, served as the National Spokesperson for Parkinsons Disease, was a volunteer for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and supported Rescue America which is an anti-drug program...Tried to help young American tennis players reach an international level...Youngest of four children...Studied ballet as a child to enhance her gymnastics...Enjoys boating, traveling, running on beaches, swimming and reading novels.
