In 1274 BCE,Ramesses II (The Great) ofEgypt led his forces against theHittite army, under King Muwatalli II, at TheBattle ofKadesh. Both sides claimed victory and the conflict resulted in the world's first peace treaty, The Treaty of Kadesh, signed in 1258 BCE.
