MetroPulse is the official travel companion for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and participating regional transit agencies. It provides trip planning, real-time service updates, station information, feedback tools, and more-all in one easy-to-use mobile app.
MetroPulse is designed for riders traveling within the WMATA service area and across local regional transit authorities within approximately 50 miles of downtown Washington, D.C.

The Trip Planner allows you to enter your origin and destination to generate optimal routes using rail and/or bus services, with estimated travel times and fare ranges. You can bookmark recent and favorite trips, stations, and destinations for quick access at any time.
MetroPulse provides real-time arrival and departure information for WMATA trains and buses, helping you plan around current service conditions.
Yes. MetroPulse includes offline maps so you can navigate the system even without an internet connection. However, live data such as trip planning and alerts requires connectivity. Metro tunnels have cellular data and each station has Wi-Fi.
MetroAlerts are automatically integrated and displayed alongside real-time bus and rail information. Notifications are not opt-in; they appear by default to inform riders of disruptions or planned maintenance.
MetroPulse includes an Online Chat feature that connects you with WMATA support staff for general inquiries and rider assistance during operating hours.
Service Metrics are available in the app to provide transparency into transit reliability, including system performance, delays, and crowding.
MetroPulse includes Rider Guides to help new and experienced riders navigate the transit system, including tips, policies, and how-to instructions. The app also provides direct links to WMATA's social network pages for news, updates, and community engagement.
No account is required to browse general transit information. However, to save preferences or access personalized features, login is required. Login is provided through your WMATA SmarTrip account.

No, your travel history is not tracked. However, you can choose to save favorite places and destinations for convenience.
The current version of MetroPulse does not support fare payments through SmarTrip, but integration is under consideration for a future release. Please use the SmarTrip app to add fares and passes to your SmarTrip account.
AI-powered features such as proactive travel alerts, smarter trip suggestions, and virtual assistance are part of the future roadmap.
Currently, MetroPulse is only available in English. Support for additional languages is planned in future updates to better serve the region's diverse rider base.
