Biography

John Towne was born on 2 April 1658 in Topsfield, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony.^[1] He is named as a son in the 1704 will of his father, Jacob Towne.^[2]

John marriedMary Smith, 2 Feb 1680, in Topsfield, Essex, Massachusetts.^[3] She was the daughter of Robert Smith and Mary French. Their children include:

• Esther Towne, born 13 Dec 1686^[8]

• John Town, born 31 May 1702^[14]

John wrote his will, 11 Jan 1730/31, in Oxford, Suffolk (later Worcester), Massachusetts. It was proved, 20 Aug 1740. It mentions: wife (not named); sons: Israel, John, Ephraim, David, Samuel, Edmund, John; and daughter: Esther MULLINS.^[15][16]

John died, before 20 Aug 1740, in Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts, at age 82. He was interred, in South Cemetery.^[17]
