Susannah (Portis) Thomas was aVirginia colonist.

Susannah Portis is estimated to have been born about 1666 In Isle of Wight, Virginia, based on approximate age 17 at marriage in 1683.

Land & Other Transactions

  • 1693 - John Portis gives to his dau. Sussannah Thomas, wife of John Thomas, land in the Upper Parish for life, Sussanah was formerly wife to Jno. Frizzell, dec., and if she die before her son Will Frizzell is of age of 18, then his [John Portis'] grandson, Will Frizzell, is to possess it. If Will Frizzell have no heirs then to John Portis' son John Portis, Jr. 6 April 1693. John Bell, John Prime, Edmund Prime.[1]
  • 1692 - FRIZELL, JOHN: Of the Upper Parish. Legatees - son William land adjoining Col. Smith and Richard Reynolds; daughter Susanna; daughter Mary; daughter Elizabeth; wife Susanna. Wife Extx. D. Aug. 19, 1692. R. April 10, 1693. Wit: John Portis, Sr., Edward Griffen, John Davis.[2]
  • On October 9, 1693, the court ordered "that John Thomas and Susanna his wife, the late wife of John Frizzell, decd., John Portis Jr., Wm. Frizzell and Thomas Sawyer come to the next court for the presentation of the estate of said Frizzell." (O. B. 1693-1695 p. 2)[3]
  • On Nov. 22, 1704, Debora Portis, widow of John Portis, Jr., deeded a certain tract of land given by John Portis, Sr., to Susanna wife of John Thomas on April 4, 1693, which was afterwards assigned to John Portis Jr. by John Thomas and his wife. (D. B. 2-238)[3]

Sussanah married secondJohn Thomas about April 1693. On April 6, 1693, John Portis gave to his daughter Susannah Thomas, wife of John Thomas, land for life. Susannah was formerly the wife of John Frizzell, decd.[4] If Susannah "die before her son Will Frizzell is of age of 18, then his [John Portis'] grandson, Will Frizzell, is to possess it. If Will Frizzell have no heirs then to John Portis' son John Portis, Jr." 6 April 1693.[5]

  • Richard Thomas, married Unknown Rogers they had four children: John Thomas, Mary Thomas, Elizabeth Thomas, Richard Thomas
  • William Thomas married Martha Robinson
  • Phillip Thomas, married Ann (unknown last name)

Disputed or not proven children of John Thomas:

  • Elizabeth Thomas, married 1st John Boddie, married 2nd John Dawson.Elizabeth Thomas is actually daughter ofWilliam Thomas.[7]
  • Barnaby Thomas, married Sarah Dawson, one son: Elisha Thomas. Based on will of Barnaby written 5 Oct 1735, he belongs in the same family as Elizabeth Thomas above. Barnaby married Sarah Dawson; calls John Dawson his brother-in-law in his will. Elizabeth Thomas married John Dawson as second husband. Moved to correct parents,William Thomas andElizabeth Hill.   • Joseph Thomas, b 1680. Born too early to be son of John and Susannah who did not marry until 1693. SeeResearch Notes on profile of Joseph Thomas.

If she died the 7th why did her dad include her in a Will written the 17th ? How does one know when she died ?
Portis-37 and Portis-34 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. Eddie King rejected Portis-37 into Portis-35. Portis-35 is approved to merge into Portis-34 but is PPP. There is no basis not to merge all profiles. rejecting is against the Honor Code and WikiTree Policy of one profile per entry.
