Biography

Elizabeth Childs was born about 1800 in Vermont to a father who had been born in Connecticut and a mother who had been born in Vermont.

In 1824, she was married to Chester Nichols. She and Chester migrated west to Indiana shortly after their marriage. Their son Chester C. Nichols was born there in 1827.

While Chester C. was still an infant, Elizabeth was left widowed when Chester Sr. passed away. On February 21, 1828, Elizabeth remarried to Timothy Losey.[1] They would have at least four children together:

  • Edwin H. Losey
  • Presina Ann Losey
  • Edson H. Losey
  • Juliette Losey

Timothy Losey died before 1850, likely as early as 1840. In 1850, Elizabeth (age 50) was living in Tazewell, Illinois in a household with her adult sons Chester and Edwin and their siblings Presina Ann, Edson, and Juliet.[2]

In 1880, Elizabeth (age 80 and suffering from dropsy) was living in Salisbury, Sangamon, Illinois with her widowed daughter Juliette Imkey and grandson, as well as a Dutch farmer named Henry, surname either Locey (making him an in-law) or Long (making him a boarder).[3]

She passed away around 1880.
