Biography

William was born about 1637. If this is his christening record from 8 Aug 1641, his father was William Burrington. His mother was Alice.^[1]

He settled in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where in 1671 he was admitted a freeman. On February 21, 1673, he bought of Henry Lake, of Dartmouth, two acres in Portsmouth.

On June 14, 1697, he bought of William Durfee and his wife, Ann, ten acres.^[2]

Little beyond these facts is known of his life. It is evident, however, that he was a man of some position in the community, for his daughters married Brown, Lawton and Robinson families.

In 1667 William Burrington married Jane ------ in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. This record shows he was born in 1637 and died in 1729. It says Jane died in 1725.^[3]

Their daughter Mary married Joseph Lawton in 1704.^[4][5]

Their son John married in 1720.^[6]
