Biography

John Barnard immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

John Barnard was born about 1632 in England; the son ofJohn Barnard andPhebe Whiting.[1]

At the age of 2 years, John migrated to New England on the vesselElizabeth with his parents and brother, Samuel.[2]He took the oath of fidelity in 1652 and became a freeman on May 31, 1671.[3]

He was married in Watertown, Middlesex County, on November 15, 1654 to Sarah Fleming, daughter of John Fleming,[4][1][5]born September 1, 1639 at Watertown. John and Sarah sold 300 acres in Weston, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony to James Barnard on July 30, 1668.[3]

In Watertown, a John Barnard was chosen as surveyor in 1661 and 1671.[6]

Sarah (Fleming) Barnard died in Watertown on March 29, 1716/17. In her death record her husband is called Mr. John Barnard, indicating that he was still living. It is sensible to assume that John Barnard died sometime after his wife's death.[7]

I would like to remove myself as profile manager of all pre-1700 profiles. However, I do not like to leave profile-orphans so if anyone would volunteer to become PM for this individual, please send me a request to do so and I can then remove myself.

This person immigrated to New England between 1621-1640 as a Minor Child (under age 21 at time of immigration) of a Puritan Great Migration immigrant who is profiled in Robert Charles Anderson's Great Migration Directory (or is otherwise accepted by thePuritan Great Migration (PGM) Project).

Please feel free to improve the profile(s) by providing additional information and reliable sources. PGM encourages the Profile Managers to monitor these profiles for changes; if any problems arise, please contact thePGM Project viaG2G for assistance. Please note that PGM continues to manage the parent's profile, but is happy to assist on the children when needed.

This profile has been updated.

I'll leave it up to thePGM Leaders to determine if the maintenance category should be removed, since I found no source for his death.

Did you happen to investigate his wife's death which reads as if John was still living when she died March 29, 1716/17? He is called Mr. John Barnard in this record. Here is a family search link:https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-9979-WQX?i=216&cc=2061550&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AFHCG-69Q

I'm only asking so as not to duplicate efforts :)

Wow, nice find, S. Thanks.

I’ll do an update on his profile tomorrow. That will at least bring us closer to his probable date of death.

death date updated. ......................................
What is the source for the second wife Elizabeth Unknown? Any objections to disconnecting or merging her away into the documented wife?
