TurkeyIn 1621, English colonists and the Wampanoag people shared a harvest feast in Plymouth. Thanks to help from theMayflower,Massachusetts, andProfile Improvement projects, we're featuring attendees of this meal in ourConnection Checkers game.

To play, first click here to see which of these is closest to you on our Big Tree

Second, attempt to verify your connection to one of them. In seven days (December 2), three players will be declared the winners and entered in the Connection Checkers Hall of Fame:

  1. The player who has the shortest verified path to one of the connections.
  2. The player who has the longest verified path to one of the connections.
  3. The player who verifies the most individual connection steps for themselves and by helping others. [current scores]

Please join us, even if you don't know where to begin. Start by simply posting an answer below with a link to a connection you'll try to verify. Then post updates by editing or commenting on your answer. If you get stuck, ask a question and others may be able to help. [more information]

P.S. Help us with next week'sCemeteries Connection Checkers game.

Ahem... not to be too nit-picky, and no disrespect intended for my 11th great grandmother Elizabeth Walker Warren, but she in fact WAS NOT THERE at the first Thanksgiving. Her husband Richard was there, and I'm sure he sorely missed her, but she and their daughters, including Mary from whom I descend four different ways, arrived on theAnne in 1623.blush

agobyOwl(128k points)

I was curious, myself, why she (an amazing person, obviously) was included, but not Richard...

She is one of my favorite ancestor stories, though!
agobyOwl(28.3k points)

@Jean and @Loretta -   We always have a large selection of greats to choose from and it's tough to narrow the list down to 12.  Thanks for sharing your favorites!

(Comments will be hidden)
agobyOwl(420k points)

Ditto...my 12th great-grandmother, though I think of Richard as the one who was at the Thanksgiving feast.
agobyOwl(20.2k points)

I am verified through to Constance Snow, 12 degrees away.
agobyNewt(780 points)

Right. So, she should not be included, at all.

I am 15 degrees fromEdward Winslow and half way verified! Not Verified... I was not confident on a few spouses.

Moving on toConstance Snow, at 14 degrees, who shares half of the connections that Edward Winslow did with me.  Weird.  Not Verified...yet.

I can't form a valid connection to Massasoit Wampanoag. There's just not enough early profiles with enough sources.

edited agobyEric Weddington

Nice, Eric! Will you attempt to verify all 12?!
agobyGolden Owl(1.6m points)

I may definitely give it a shot. There are multiple paths to each connection that I can attempt. It may take me the rest of the week though.
agobyOwl(571k points)

Hi Eric!  Thanks for verifying the connections.  In the future, if you could post an answer on the first one you wish to verify and then comment on that answer for each additional one you verify throughout the week vs listing all in one post, it would be appreciated.

Thanks so much for playing Connection Checkers!

I'm going to start with a possible 12º connection to Elizabeth Howland.

Update:  Had to go to 15º on her.  But I've discovered one, and possibly more, mistakes in Mayflower descendancy.  I'm fixing them today, with the Mayflower Project's permission and so some of my, and everyone else's, connection paths may change during the week.

Update:  I found the proof and did the 12º on Eliz. Howland.

VERIFIED:

Elizabeth (Tilly) Howland at 12º and 10th gg

Priscilla (Mullins) Alden at 13º and 11th gg

Myles Standish at 13º and 11th gg

William Bradford at 13º and 11th gg

Elizabeth Warren at 13º and 11th gg

Henry Samson at 13º and 11th gg

Constance Snow at 14º and 11th gg-aunt

George Soule at 14º

Francis Billington at 14º

Edward Winslow at 14º and 11th gg-uncle

Mary Brewster at 15º and 12th gg-aunt

Thank's for your help Sandy. l know several languages, but unfortunately not computer languages, completely ignorant. So l am still trying to figure out how to send the link over to G2G. l read in your reply to someone els, that seemed simple, You say that after copying, go to G2G and click on the icon that looks like a chain link. But no, no icon that looks like a chain link is visible on my computer, in G2G.  Can American and European computers be a bit different?
agobyOwl(128k points)

Hi Kari -  you are doing great. I am so impressed by your languages.

The chain link icon appears when you edit your answer or make a new answer or a new comment.  Other icons that also appear are the B (for bold), I (for Italics), I (for underline), etc.  Those might be a bit different on your computer but they are also standard.

I don't think it is any different for European or American computers.  I asked another WikiTree'er in England and the single chain link icon appears for them.

But definitely don't let those hold you back from playing Connection Checkers.  Until we figure it out, I'm always here to help.  I always look forward to seeing your connections every week and the bits of info you share.

This is so crazy! Back in the olden days we were always told about Mary Chilton, our relative, being the first "woman" to step off of the Mayflower.

After many years of immersing myself into verifiable genealogy and DNA, it came to light that she was NOT our closest relative on that ship! I am her (unverified) 10th great -grand niece, with Edward, her son, being a 1st cousin, 11 times removed.

I really enjoy this Challenge! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

P. S. I am related to Billington, Mullins, Soule, Standish, Massasoit, and Winslow by marriage!

With 2 figures at 15 degrees (William Bradford & Elizabeth Howland), Elizabeth Howland's connection seems the most direct of the 2.

0. Elizabeth Tilley

1.Hope Howland (her daughter)

2. Mercy Chipman (her daughter)

3. Ruth Skiffe (her daughter)

4. Samuel Mayhew (her son)

5. Samuel Mayhew (his son)

6. Henry Mayhew (his son)

7. Saluda Mayhew (his daughter)

8. Henry Brumfield (her son)

9. Saluda Brumfield (his daughter)

10. George Blair (her husband)

11. William Blair (his father)

12. Samuel Blair (his brother)

13. John Blair (his son)

14. Irene Blair (his daughter)

15. Frank Blankenship (her son)

My ancesters arrived mostly in Virginia, and thus, no direct descendants from Massachusetts. Of course, here comes the war between the states to make conclusions seem even more top heavy.
