Itinerary description

Bhashkar Gol Lake is one of the most scenic and yet undiscovered lakes in Pakistan.
A day's hike from the beautiful village of "Sor Laspur", it also leads to Thalo Zom peak and Thalo Pass which descends into Kumrat Valley.

Our initial plan was to do Thalo pass but we were stuck at the lake for 4 nights due to continuous rain.

Lake can be reached in one day from Sor Laspur depending on the team, however usually it takes two days.
If you are doing Thalo pass, you don't camp on the lake on the second day, infact cross and camp there.

The jeep goes beyond the village and can drop you off to the end of the man-grown forest of the village from where you can start the trek.

After 5 days of continuous rain we woke up to a sunny morning.
But as we had wasted a lot many days staying there during rain, so we wanted to return instead of going ahead.

We packed our bags, wrapped up the camps and were on our way. Pictures were beautiful this time with sun on us. A lot many water crossings, some a bit risky due to land sliding. Herds of yaks were grazing just like they did a few days ago. We were in several parties. Some were ahead of us, some behind. Sun was burning the skin intensely. Finally came the river crossing, as I had lost my slippers, I had to do it almost barefoot an it kind of killed me.

Strange the distance after river crossing felt very long. Sometime very close to the sunset we reached the camping ground but then it was decided to camp in the polo ground. The village has a lot water flowing freely. Again I had to take my shoes off and cross water, walk in the mud and on stones barefoot. But the struggle did not end as from Polo ground, on insistence of our youngest porter, we went to his house where we spent the night with the most hospitable people and delicious feast.

Camp Site at Bhaskar Gol Lake

We carefully selected the site considering the rain, strong wind and most importantly land sliding. Due to cold weather, rain and wind we did not camp at the bank of the lake. Camp site had a fresh water spring from the glacier above which also had a beautiful waterfall. There was also a cave at the top of boulders where our porters stayed.

Bhashkar Gol river meets the Isphorili river here. Interestingly both are fed by the glaciers generated by the peak Gochhar Sar.

These plateaus are magnificent. Yellow grass and black yaks, everything looks so perfect here. Yaks are very shy creature, and rarely stand next to you. They just run away when they see any human coming towards them.

Very strange terrain. A deep crater which did not have any water after 4 days of continuous rain. Water might get drenched from it's bottom

People from Balim village spend their autumn (October and November)up in the mountains but on the other side of the river. Reaching there is not possible as there is no bridge to cross the river.
