This property will be used to describe stage dimensions of event venues. A group of domain experts is currently in the process of specifying how the technical specifications and the equipment of cultural venues shall be described in Wikidata. So far, information about stage specifications have been entered for about 240 items.
See theWikiProject Cultural venues for further details.
As there is a fundamental difference between the "height" and the "free height" of a stage, which is highly relevant in practice, we felt that it was necessary to create a specific property for the latter.
The current definition ofclearance(P2793) has some similarities with the proposed property. It is however specific to bridges. It furthermore presents the difficulty that it confounds two related concepts: (a) the clearance under a bridge; (b) the clearance of a vessel (i.e. the vertical distance between the waterline and its highest element (see for example the French definition of the property).
As a matter of fact, very similar concepts are used for: (1) built spaces; (2) entrances / openings in buildings; (3) underpasses in the context of transportation infrastructure; (4) vessels / vehicles. The current definition of this property proposal ("vertical distance from the floor level to the lowest obstruction in the ceiling of an indoor or outdoor space") would apply only to built spaces.
