A device or medium for storing and retrieving information. The oldest storage medium is paper, on which the largest amount of information is stored today. Magnetic, optoelectric or other memory media are used in computer technology. The most important characteristics of memory are recall time and memory capacity. The memory with which the computer immediately works is called the operational memory; the computer temporarily or permanently stores information on hard or disk memory.(English)
