Weekend Fire Risk
Riesgo de Fuego
Heat Safety
Warmup Continues!
Saturday
Sunday
Strong winds, very low relative humidity, above normal temperatures and an unstable atmosphere will lead to critical fire weather conditions this weekend. Rapid fire spread is likely if a fire starts. Some areas of eastern NM may see extremely critical fire weather conditions on Sunday.
Condiciones secas, temperaturas altas, y vinetos fuertes causaran un alto riesgo de propagacion rapida del fuego. Hay una Vigilancia de Incedios para el sabado para partes del centro-norte, centro-oeste, y noreste del estado.
Warmer temperatures are approaching fast, so it's a perfect time to practice heat safety! Always make sure to take the precautions to protect yourself and others from the heat, especially since it has been a long time since temperatures have risen this high.
A rapid warm-up continues heading into the end of this week, outside of a brief dip across eastern NM this morning. Record breaking temperatures likely by Friday and Saturday! Temperature finally start to cool down on Monday, especially for eastern areas due to a backdoor front.
Record breaking temperatures combined with very dry conditions and strengthening west to southwest winds will result in critical fire weather conditions Saturday for portions of west central, north central and northeast NM. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for these areas.
Westerly winds will be even strong on Sunday. Temperatures will remain above normal (though slightly cooler than Saturday) and relative humidity values will remain critically low. Widespread critical fire weather conditions are expected. Rapid fire spread is likely if a fire starts.
