This document has been reviewed by W3C Members and other interested partiesand has been endorsed by the Director as a W3C Recommendation. It is a stabledocument and may be used as reference material or cited as a normative referencefrom another document. W3C's role in making the Recommendation is to drawattention to the specification and to promote its widespread deployment. This enhances the functionality and interoperability of the Web.
This document has been produced by theSYMM Working Group[members only] as part of theW3C Synchronized MultimediaActivity. The goals of the SYMM Working Group are discussed in theSYMM WorkingGroup charter[members only].
The SYMM Working Group considers that all features in the SMIL 2.0 Recommendationhave been implemented at least twice in an interoperable way. TheSYMMWorking Group Charter defines this as the implementations having beendeveloped independently by different organizations and each test in the publicSMIL 2.0 test suitehas at least two passing implementations. TheImplementationresults are publicly released and are intended solely to be used as proofof SMIL 2.0 implementability. It is only a snap shot of the actual implementationbehaviors at one moment of time, as these implementations may not be immediatelyavailable to the public. The interoperability data is not intended to beused for assessing or grading the performance of any individual implementation.
There are patent disclosures and license commitments associated with theSMIL 2.0 Recommendation, thesemay be found on theSYMM Patent Statement pagein conformance withW3C policy.
