There are many ways to support Virginia Tech Global Distinction. A few ways you can contribute are by making gifts that support the following, but not limited to:
Professorship: $1 million
Endowed professorships recognize and reward exceptional faculty members. Because they are so highly prized within the educational industry, endowed professorships are a powerful tool for recruitment and retention.
Graduate fellowship:$100,000
Graduate students play a key role in the academic environment of an institution. Faculty members rely on their support while teaching and conducting research. And whether they go into industry or academia, graduate students' career accomplishments highlight the quality of their alma mater.
Post-doctoral fellowship: $500,000
Post-doctoral fellowships help compensate highly qualified individuals who have earned their doctorates and are embarking on highly specialized research alongside professors at Virginia Tech.

There are two types of Virginia Tech research institutes, both are high level organizations that support faculty led research.
Investment Institutes
This type of institute leverages university funds to invest in targeted research areas with a particular emphasis on interdisciplinary programs and may include support for recruitment, retention and recognition of faculty, seed funds for new research projects, equipment purchases, support and management of core facilities, graduate student recruitment, undergraduate experiential learning opportunities, and research-related outreach activities. They include:
- Fralin Life Sciences Institute
- Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology
- Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science
- Institute for Society, Culture, and Environment
Thematic Institutes
This type of institute features unique research facilities, faculty, staff and student talent, usually having physical infrastructure that carries out leading-edge interdisciplinary research in a particular area that aligns with the university’s vision and mission and include the following:
