He was born in Italy
Cole Mitchell Sprouse was born on August 4, 1992 in the Italian city of Arezzo in Tuscany, to American parentsMatthew Sprouse andMelanie Wright. Named after legendary jazzmanNat King Cole, he moved to Long Beach, California with his family when he was four months old. Rumor has it that his taste for cinema comes from his mother and grandmother.
He was a child star
It was at just eight months old thatCole took his first steps as an actor in commercials and TV movies alongside his twin brotherDylan. From 1993 to 1998, the duo shared the character ofPatrick Kelly in the sitcomGrace Under Fire, before playingJulian in the movieBig Daddy in the late 1990s. In 2002, he played the role of the youngPistachio Disguisey inThe Master of Disguise.
If we had to pick a favorite role from that time, it would probably be that ofBen, the son ofRoss Geller in the famous seriesFriends. In an interview for theNew York Post,Cole Sprouse confesses to having a crush onJennifer Aniston (Rachel Green):"I had a really, really hard time working with [Jennifer] Aniston because I was so in love with her," he told the New York Post. "I was infatuated. I was speechless — I’d get all bubbly and forget my lines and completely blank.… It was so difficult."
From actor to archeologist
After playingCody Martin between 2005 and 2008 in the Disney Channel series,The Suite life of Zack & Cody, followed by the spin-offThe Suite Life on Deck from 2008 to 2011,Cole Sprouse decided to make a new turn in his career, off-camera.
Despite his long love of cinema, he enrolled at theGallatin School of Individualized Study in 2011, where he pursued humanities and archeology. He graduated in 2015, the same year as his brother, specializing in geographic information systems and satellite imaging.
The TV comeback
In 2016Cole Sprouse was invited to join the new series led byRoberto Aguirre-Sacasa, based onArchie Comics’ ,Riverdale. Despite the 24 year-old’s initial hesitation, he finally accepted the role ofJughead Jones, outsider, badboy and the best friend ofArchie Andrews.
Fun fact?Cole originally auditioned for the role of ofArchie. It was also on-set that he metLili Reinhart (Betty Cooper), who he has been dating since 2017.
He is passionate about photography
