Ski Season Forecast: What to Expect with La Niña

Snowy nature scene with tall pine trees dusted with snow and a few people on snowshoes at their base in a line like they are on a tour.

Meteorologists anticipate a La Niña pattern this season. This typically bringsaverage snowfall to Utah’s mountains.

In plain terms:

  • A promising start: Forecasts hint at an early La Niña, which often brings solid storm activity to northern Utah.
  • Reliable skiing ahead: While totals may bearound average, the Wasatch Mountains are known for consistent snowfall and dependable conditions.
  • Best at elevation: Resorts like Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Solitude are well-positioned to catch the best of the season’s storms.
  • Variety is likely: Expect a mix of big powder days and sunny stretches, great for both skiers and après-ski plans.
  • Plan with confidence: Even in “average” years, Salt Lake’s easy access and four world-class resorts make it one of the most reliable ski destinations in North America.
