Camping In The Snowy Range Mountains

The Snowy Range Mountains, in Medicine Bow National Forest, offer a variety of camping options, from National Forest Campgrounds to cabin rentals. Bow River, Deep Creek, and Brooklyn Lake offer quiet seclusion, abundant fishing and challenging trails, while Nash Fork, Silver Lake, and Sugarloaf provide easy access to Highway 130 in the midst of alpine beauty. Vedauwoo Camping

Midway between Laramie and Cheyenne, visible from I-80, striking granite formations draw the eye of even the most casual passerby. This is the rock formation known as Vedauwoo, from the Arapaho word “bito'o'wu” which means “earth-born.” Rising up to 500 feet and stretching for ten square miles, the Vedauwoo rocks were born of magma over a billion years ago and continue to be sculpted by wind, water, and ice. A mix of pink feldspar, white quartz, and specks of black hornblende called Sherman Granite gives the rocks their spectacular coloring.

An RV campground tucked into the rock formations offers 11 campsites with fire pits, picnic tables, and grills. Thetent campground provides accommodations closer to the largest outcrop, Turtle Rock. Either of these campgrounds provides an excellent base for summer activities like mountain biking, rock climbing, or fishing.
