First of all, yes: ApparentlySean Spicer is still a contestant onDancing With the Stars. And on Monday the former White House press secretary dressed up as a beloved character during the competition show’s Disney night. (DWTS is on ABC, which is owned by Disney, so the synergy was flowing freely.) However any of us predicted our nation’sKafkaesque nightmare would unfold, it seems safe to bet none of us had “Sean Spicer dressed up as Woody fromToy Story” on our bingo card. And yet...

As the president continues to battle his impeachment inquiry, the man who once routinelylied on his behalf took to the stage Monday night dressed in full cowboy gear, including a sheriff’s star, to dance his quickstep to a fast-tempo version of theToy Story standby “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” The judges were pleased. As judgeCarrie Ann Inaba put it, “You give good Woody!”

Spicer ultimately walked away with a 19/30 score. He dedicated the dance to his father, who died of cancer in 2016.

The August announcement that Spicer would join theDancing With the Stars cast stirred considerable ire from both critics of the White House and theDancing With the Stars cast itself. At least, hostTom Bergeron wasless than thrilled with the development, writing in a statement, “A few months ago, during a lunch withDWTS’ new Executive Producer, I offered suggestions for Season 28. Chief among them was my hope thatDWTS, in its return following an unprecedented year-long hiatus, would be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably divisive bookings from ANY party affiliations. I left that lunch convinced we were in agreement. Subsequently (and rather obviously), a decision was made to, as we often say in Hollywood, ‘go in a different direction.’” Spicer’s fellow competitorKaramo Brown spoke insupport of Spicer’s casting, only to receive some blowback himself.

Evidently, however, this bit of stunt casting is not over yet; Spicer’shorrific, lime green-clad debut was not enough to send him home, and now ABC is allowing him to tarnish even Sheriff Woody’s good name. At this point it seems safe to assume the rest of Disney’s most beloved characters are hiding in the vault, praying they won’t be next.
