COOPER Murray put the Triple Eight wildcard entry on top in the co-drivers’ final practice session ahead of the Repco Bathurst 1000.

Unlike Friday’s bruising day, Saturday morning’s 60-minute Practice 5 ran almost without incident.

It also ran almost without any ‘Hollywood’ laptimes as teams focused primarily on race setups, save for Murray’s late efforts.

Either of his final two laps of the session would have been good enough to top the session, but it was his last flyer – a 2m07.0951s – that left him 0.42s clear of the rest.

“We made a lot of changes overnight – pretty much threw the kitchen sink at it!” Murray said of the #888 Chevrolet, which he is sharing this weekend with seven-time Bathurst 1000-winnerCraig Lowndes.

“I’m really stoked with the car this morning, I think the changes have been in a really positive direction.”

The co-driver-only session also gave a chance to practice the Full Course Yellow procedure, doing so in the early minutes.

It was just as well, too;Fabian Coulthard (#2 Ford) andDale Wood (#26 Ford) were caught out on Conrod Straight, the former locking up and the latter taking to the grass to avoid another pair of slowing Mustangs.

Jayden Ojeda brought the session to a halt after seven minutes, a lockup into Hell Corner leading him to bounce the #9 Camaro nose-first into the tyre barrier.

Fortunately there was only limited damage. Ojeda, once retrieved from the gravel, was able to drive the car back to the pits and returned to the session after only eight minutes in the garage.

Although all teams focused on race runs, many broke theirs up with stops to make adjustments while only a handful completed stints that roughly equated to a full fuel tank run.

The Triple Eight trio showed impressive pace late in theirs, still registering high-2m07s and low 2m08s after almost 20 laps on a stint.

Both Erebus cars were also fast late in their long runs.Todd Hazelwood, aboard the #1 Camaro, set the fastest middle sector of the session and his best time of the session to that point (a 2m07.7593s) on the 15th lap of a stint.

Ojeda demonstrated there was nothing wrong with the #9 car either, leaping to second on the timesheets on the 13th lap of a stint.

James Moffat (#6 Ford) held sway for much of the session and retained second place after Murray’s late efforts, with Ojeda third fromJordan Boys and Coulthard.

Scott Pye (#87 Chevrolet),Aaron Cameron (#3 Ford),Lee Holdsworth (#25 Ford), Hazelwood andGarth Tander (#19 Ford) rounded out the top 10.

All 26 cars fronted for the session, with both of Friday’s qualifying victims back in action after all-night rebuilds.

Kai Allen ended the session an impressive 12th aboardDick Johnson Racing’s #17 Ford, whose rebuild finished well after sunrise on Saturday morning.

Team 18 worked just as late on its #20 Camaro, whichWarren Luff drove to the 24th fastest time of the session.

The Supercars hit the track for one final practice session at 1:10pm AEDT ahead of the Top 10 Shootout later this afternoon.
