City B-League – East Final 4: E3 Team Smoke (3-5) 63 E1 SH-Warriors (8-0) 109… Team Smoke came in after a very solid win in the quarters over #2 seed ELW-Pine Grove, and looked poised to give the Warriors a run for their money. It never materialized, as the SHW bolted out to an 11-0 lead in the opening minutes and never looked back. Sammy Frazier was bullying his way in the middle for easy buckets, while CJ Bennett was canning threes from 25-feet and SHW had amassed a 49-21 gap by the intermission. TS managed to generate more points in the second half, but so did the Warriors, as Frazier and Bennett continued their torrid pace, to go along with Kingston Eleazer andCade Archer (6'0''-PG, college:Reinhardt) getting in on the act. Jay Jackson and Joe Kubanik combined for 26 second-half points for TS, but it was just not enough to overcome the large deficit. Jackson would finish with 20, while Kubanik had 12 and JR Davis 12. Michael Dixon also had 10 in the loss. For SHW, Frazier and Bennett combined for 63 total, while Archer had 14, Eleazer 12 and Chaz Phillips eight. In all, the Warriors sank 17 threes in the game, as they move back into the City Conference Title game on Sunday at 4:00pm against the BC Dragons.
City B-League – West Final 4: W4 BC Dragons (5-4) 108 W3 Junta Soldiers (4-4) 92… In the history of the summer league, there have been a couple of instances where uncommitted teams advance, only to display the non-committed mentality at a more important juncture. This occurred again last night in the West Division semi-final, as the defending champs did not show up in force to play for the chance to repeat as City Conference titleholders. The Dragons, already a team to be reckoned with, seized the opportunity and simply disposed of what Junta managed to put on the court for the game. They would blister the nets in the first half to the tune of 17 treys, to build an insurmountable 65-37 lead by the half-way point. Junta would fight with what they had and would slowly clip away at the deficiency, but there was just not enough in the tank. Jeremiah Alston cranked in 42 for Junta, whileAntonio Gillespie (6'0''-PG) had 22. Perignon Dyer also had 14 and Raylin Royal 13 as Junta’s season came to a very disappointing halt. Drew Washington had 28 for the Dragons, whileDwight Hall (5'10''-G, college:Gordon CC) had 24, Noah Travis 20, Stevie Dallas 19 and Chase Hallen 17. The Dragons break through to the City Conference finals for the first time and will take on the SH-Warriors at 4:00pm on Sunday. At least we can be assured both teams will respect the game enough to show up on Sunday.
