U-Pass
All-access transit in Ottawa and Gatineau
The U-Pass isa mandatory transit pass for all graduate and undergraduate students who are registered full-time at the University of Ottawa, or completing a CO-OP work term.
The U-Pass is a student initiative that has come into effect through successful student referendums and through collaboration with OC Transpo and STO.
U-Pass Benefits
The U-Pass offers a discount of approximately 45-55% off a regular monthly adult transit pass.It also benefits the local community, the University, and the environment by:
- Saving you money, especially if you leave the car at home or only partially use your car.
- Providing unlimited access to the entire transit network in the National Capital Region (Ottawa & Gatineau), which in turn allows students to access jobs, social activities, and a wide variety of museums and parks.
- Reducing demand for parking on campus; thus, less resources are spent on constructing parking facilities and more valuable land is available for university development.
- Reducing traffic congestion around the campus and the local community.
- Contributing to fewer emissions and a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
- Stimulating public transportation ridership, particularly during off-peak, non-commuting hours, thereby filling excess capacity.
Using your U-Pass
Your uOttawa student card is your U-Pass and will work on all OC Transpo and STO trains and buses. Simply tap and hold your uOttawa student card on the transit access readers upon boarding. Consult your U-Pass portal to determine if your uOttawa Card is ready to be used.
If you are not charged the U-Pass, you might be able to opt-in for your U-Pass. To opt-in, you will need to complete the opt-in application in the U-Pass portal and provide the necessary documentation. You will only be able to opt-in if you meet one of the opt-in criteria.
Cost, validity and important dates
It’s important to understand when your U-Pass can be used, how much the program costs and knowing when you can submit an opt-in or exemption request.
Getting around Ottawa during the summer
During the summer, the U-Pass is only valid if you’re enrolled full time or you’re completing a summer term co-op placement. Check your U-Pass portal.
If this isn’t the case for you, you might be eligible for the EquiPass, OC Transpo’s reduced fare pass. The process can take up to a month, so consider applying soon. See if you’reyour eligibility and apply.
