About Unicode® Terminology

The Unicode terminology pages list important terminology from the Unicode Standard and related specifications, and provide suggested translations of that terminology in various languages.

Currently, the following languages are available:

English - French	French - English
English - Japanese	Japanese - English
English - Traditional Chinese	Traditional Chinese - English
English - Simplified Chinese	Simplified Chinese - English

The French terminology includes French translations of Unicode-related terminology published in the French translations of ISO/IEC 10646, ISO/IEC 14651 or other ISO character encoding standards. The Japanese terminology comes from theUnicode Glossary. The Traditional Chinese comes from the government of the Hong Kong SAR and standard on-line references. The Simplified Chinese is based on the Traditional Chinese, sorted by segmented Pīnyīn.

These terminology pages focus specifically on translations for formal terms used in the Unicode Standard and related standards. Translations for other useful locale-related content, such as script names, language names, country names, and common formatting information such as days of the week, names for months, and so on, is available for many languages in theCommon Locale Data Repository (CLDR).
