After a January packed with big premieres — The PittSeason 2,Industry Season 4, and theGame of Thrones prequelA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms — HBO is slowing down in February. The biggest TV premiere is a new season ofLast Week Tonight with John Oliver, but we're also keeping our eye onNeighbors, an enigmatic new series executive produced by Marty Supreme director Josh Safdie.

On the movies end, Emma Thompson is venturing into the dead of winter in the seasonally appropriate thriller Dead of Winter. If you're looking for something a little lighter, maybe check out the animated coming-of-age filmBoys Go to Jupiter, which features the voices of Cole Escola, Julio Torres, Eva Victor, and more. Look, it's a light month, but at least there are new episodes ofThe Pitt every week.

The best new HBO Max movies and shows in February

HBO Max streams all HBO shows and movies when they debut on HBO. But not all shows and movies on HBO Max make it to HBO. We'll designate HBO Max exclusives where appropriate.

Neighbors (Feb. TBD, HBO)

There's very little to be known about the new Josh Safdie-produced seriesNeighbors, but the involvement ofMarty Supreme director Safdie and his frequent collaborator Ronald Bronstein is, at the very least, intriguing. HBO describes it as an examination of "absurd, outrageous, and dramatic real-life residential conflicts from a wide range of larger-than-life characters across the United States," which will have to hold us all over until it premieres.

Boys Go to Jupiter (Feb. 6, HBO)

Despite the animation style, this surreal coming-of-age film isnot a video game. It follows a teenager in suburban Florida whose desperate quest to make $5,000 gets derailed by the arrival of an alien. If that's not enough to interest you, the voice cast is packed with alt comedy stars like Cole Escola, Julio Torres, Sarah Sherman, Demi Adejuyigbe, Eva Victor, Chris Fleming, and more. [Trailer]
