Dodgers call up Nick Ramirez as fresh arm in the bullpen

Third stint in the majors this year for the left-handed Ramirez. Eduardo Salazar was optioned to Triple-A after pitching two innings Wednesday night.

TheDodgers added a fresh arm to the bullpen for a second day in a row, calling up left-hander Nick Ramirez from Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of Thursday night’s series opener against the Reds at Dodger Stadium. Eduardo Salazar was optioned afterpitching two innings Wednesday night in San Francisco in his one day with the team this time around.

Salazar was one oftwo pitchers called up to finish out the series against the Giants, giving the rest of the rotation an extra day of rest in the middle of 13 game days in a row. Elieser Hernández started and pitched the first six innings, allowing three runs in his first game back in the majors since 2022. Manager Dave Roberts said after Wednesday’s game that Hernández would stick around and could pitch bulk innings again at some point soon after some rest.

“He’s a guy who’s going to be here for a minute,” Roberts said of Hernández, per SportsNet LA. “He’ll be down obviously for a while, for a few days, then we’ll get him back in some capacity.”

Perhaps relatedly, the Dodgers list TBA as their starting pitcher on Sunday, with the option of giving Yoshinobu Yamamoto an extra, sixth day of rest being considered.

Ramirez last pitched for Oklahoma City on Tuesday, striking out three in 1⅔ scoreless innings, throwing 27 pitches. In six games in Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, Ramirez has a 1.35 ERA in 6⅔ innings, with 11 strikeouts against only one walk.

This is the third stint with the Dodgers this season for Ramirez, whowas acquired from the Yankees for cash on April 2. In five games with Los Angeles this season, Ramirez allowed one run in seven innings, with three walks and two strikeouts.
