HomeTeamNS’ Khatib clubhouse to open in 2020

SINGAPORE — The HomeTeamNS’ Khatib clubhouse — the first of three “smart” clubhouses to be rolled out from 2020 — will feature a four-storey indoor adventure hub, tactical training simulator and a swimming pool that uses less chlorine.

SINGAPORE — The HomeTeamNS’ Khatib clubhouse — the first of three “smart” clubhouses to be rolled out from 2020 — will feature a four-storey indoor adventure hub, tactical training simulator and a swimming pool that uses less chlorine.

Apart from doing away with physical membership cards and adopting cashless payments, the Khatib clubhouse will also leverage data on usage patterns.

The S$74 million clubhouse, five minutes’ walk from Khatib MRT station, will serve mostly HomeTeamNS members in northern Singapore.

At its groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday (July 12), Minister for Home Affairs and Law K Shanmugam said the masterplan for three new clubhouses was conceived in 2016.

They are a way of showing appreciation to Home Team National Servicemen who help keep Singapore safe and secure, said Mr Shanmugam. “We want them to be iconic, special and a place which our NSmen will enjoy.”

Two other clubhouses in Bedok and Tengah will serve HomeTeamNS members in eastern and western Singapore.

The Khatib clubhouse is the first to be built from scratch, unlike existing clubhouses that were converted from existing properties. It is expected to serve about 250,000 visitors per month.

The four-storey, 2,800 square meter indoor adventure hub will feature obstacles such as a rope course and indoor gliding.

An indoor tactical simulator will help Home Team NSmen improve their marksmanship and decision-making skills in an urban environment, with realistic simulations of different combat scenarios such as terrorist attacks.

Both facilities will be open to the public.

The clubhouse will also be equipped with charging stations for electric cars, solar panels, smart lighting controls, rainwater harvesting and a swimming pool with eco-filtration that will help reduce chlorine usage.

HomeTeamNS will partner with POSB bank to introduce a digital membership and cashless payment system for the Khatib and future clubhouses.

Future members will be able to access club facilities, make payments and redeem HomeTeamNS dollars without using physical cards. Members will also be able to renew memberships, make payments or book facilities online using their smartphones or at the clubhouse’s self-service kiosks.

The clubhouse will tap big data to better analyse demand for service and facilities, said Mr Shanmugam.

HomeTeamNS chief executive Agnes Eu said the existing Sembawang clubhouse will close shortly after the Khatib clubhouse opens.

According to her, the future Bedok clubhouse will have a “waterfront haven” theme and be completed in two to three years, while the Tengah Clubhouse — which will be located in the Tengah Forest Town — will have a “great outdoors” theme and be completed in 10 to 15 years. The Tengah clubhouse will replace the existing Bukit Batok clubhouse.

CORRECTION:In an earlier version of the story, it was stated that the future Bedok and Tengah HomeTeamNS clubhouses will replace the existing Tampines and Bukit Batok clubhouses, respectively. This is incorrect. Only the Tengah clubhouse will replace the existing Bukit Batok clubhouse. We apologise for the error.
