‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ to Kick Off Trilogy, Tom Holland Reveals

“Sorry, Marvel. Whoops,” actor tells French press

Tom Holland has accidentally revealed that the upcoming “Spider-Man” solo movies from Sony are actually a trilogy.

In a video interview with French outletAlloCiné that appears on Facebook, Holland let slip that two additional “Spider-Man” films are in the works. “There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man especially to grow in the next two movies,” he said. (Watch it here atthe 8:10 mark.)

When a reporter checked in with Holland on whether what the actor had just said was breaking news, he responded, “Sorry, Marvel. Whoops.”

Holland added: “[Spider-Man is] definitely not the finished article by the end of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies… Yeah, there’ll be ‘Spider-Man’ 2 and 3. It won’t be ‘Homecoming’ 2 and 3.”

While we knew Holland has a six-picture deal, a solo trilogy has yet to be officially announced by Sony.

“Homecoming” will skip the backstory of how Parker gets his powers, a story that was highlighted in the previous “Spider-Man” incarnations.

Spidey (Holland) tries to go back to his daily routine after “Captain America: Civil War,” but is distracted by thoughts of wanting to prove himself. That’s when the film’s villain appears, threatening everyone Peter Parker loves.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” also stars Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, and Tony Revolori.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” hits theaters July 7.

Sony did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
