On free-to-air television, Channel Seven has the broadcast rights to four matches per week, but precisely which matches appear can vary from state to state.
As part of the league’s new broadcast rights deal, beginning in 2025, Seven will also have to show any home-and-away matches broadcast on Saturdays in the first eight rounds – or 15 rounds in Victoria – on delay, with the exceptions any Anzac Day, Anzac Day Eve or Dreamtime at the ‘G matches that fall on a Saturday.
Typically Victoria, Tasmania and Northern Territory will receive the same four matches on free-to-air television. These can vary from week to week but will usually include the Friday night match and one Saturday night match, a Sunday afternoon match and others.
In other states, the coverage is based on the local teams. South Australia will get all matches featuring Adelaide and Port Adelaide, Western Australia get all matches featuring West Coast and Fremantle, New South Wales get all matches featuring Sydney and Greater Western Sydney, and Queensland get all matches featuring Brisbane and Gold Coast.
