Jonny Greenwood reveals details of Krzysztof Penderecki collaboration

Radiohead guitarist teams up with Polish composer on forthcoming album

Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood has announced details of his collaborative album with composerKrzysztof Penderecki. Due on 13 March, the LP will include Greenwood's 2005 piece, Popcorn Superhet Receiver, which has never been released.

Penderecki, 79, is arguably Poland's greatest living composer. And Greenwood is a long-time fan who often references Penderecki in his music. The pair met in Poland last year, at the European Culture Congress, and agreed to collaborate. The album was recorded last year with the Polish Aukso Orchestra, conducted by Penderecki and Marek Moś.

The LP consists of four different pieces. Polymorphia and Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima were written by Penderecki in the early 60s. Greenwood's 48 Responses to Polymorphia is, as its title suggests, an orchestral "remix" of the earlier work, while Popcorn Superhet Receiver was inspired by Threnody.

To celebrate the album's release, Penderecki and Moś will appear at London's Barbican on 22 March, conducting the Aukso Chamber Orchestra. Tickets areavailable now.
