Waldron takes reins at i-D

This article is more than 21 years old

Style magazine i-D has named Glenn Waldron as its new editor after Avril Mair stood down to concentrate on her fashion consultancy.

Waldron, a freelance journalist who has written for Vogue and the Guardian among others, joins as the magazine celebrates its quarter-century.

He said he planned to introduce a number of guest collaborators to help celebrate the magazine's anniversary, kicking off with the former Face and Arena Homme + director, Ashley Heath.

"The offer was too good," he said today. "I'm very pleased to be joining i-D at such an exciting time in its history."

Mair quit last month, shortly after the departure of her deputy, Mark Hooper, who joined Esquire in September. She had edited the magazine for eight years.

Launched by a former Vogue art director, Terry Jones, i-D assumed the status of "style bible" during its heyday in the 1980s.

One of its chief rivals, the Face, closed in June after owner Emap decided increased competition from newspaper style supplements and more mainstream magazines meant the title was no longer commercially viable.
