Board post for Karren Brady
Channel 4 has appointedKarren Brady, the managing director of Birmingham City football club, to its board as a non-executive director.
Ms Brady, who was 23 when she was appointed managing director of Birmingham in 1993, joins the broadcaster with Andy Mollett, the chief financial officer of EMI Music Publishing.
She has enjoyed a high public profile since appearing in a TV docusoap about the football club, helping its struggle into the Premiership and overseeing its flotation in 1997. She writes a football column for the Sun.
Mr Mollett and Ms Brady replace outgoing non-executive directors, former Trinity Mirror chief executive Joe Sinyor and Peter Bazalgette, the boss of Big Brother producer Endemol UK.
Luke Johnson, theChannel 4 chairman, said: "Andy has an impressive and highly relevant track record in the media sector, while Karren is rightfully admired for turning Birmingham City into a plc and building it into a Premiership powerhouse."
The pair join at a crucial time in the channel's 12-year history. Top of the agenda is its mooted merger with Channel Five and the continued spectre of privatisation.
Then there is Ofcom's review of public service broadcasting and the ongoing battle for viewers. The station's audience share slipped below 10% for the first time in 12 years in 2003.
Ms Brady is chairman of Emap's Kerrang! digital radio station and a non-executive director of Mothercare.
Mr Mollett joined EMI Music Publishing as chief financial officer from Scottish Media Group last year. He previously held the same post at Ginger Media Group - which was subsequently bought by SMG - and was the finance director for Virgin Radio.
