A new train service, Rangpur Express, scheduled to ply Dhaka-Rangpur was inaugurated at Rangpur Railway Station in the evening yesterday by Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain.
Addressing a public gathering as the chief guest, Syed Abul said, “The government will introduce six more intercity trains across the country ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr with a view to facilitating movement of people.”
Admitting that condition of highways and roads is vulnerable, he said the government is trying to enrich the railway network to ease pressure on highways.
The 11-compartment Rangpur Express will run twice daily except Sunday, leaving Rangpur Railway Station at 7:40pm and reaching Dhaka at 6:35am, taking almost 11 hours. It will then leave Dhaka at 9:00am and reach Rangpur at 7:00pm.
It will stop at 13 railway stations including Rangpur, Kawnia, Bamondanga, Gaibanda, Bonarpara, Bogra, Santahar, Natore, Bangabandhu Bridge (East), Chatmohor, Dhaka Airport, Dhaka Cantonment and Kamalapur.
The fare for air conditioned cabin is Tk 840, first class is Tk 575, Shovon chair is Tk 265 and Shovon general seat is Tk 200, said Mostafizur Rhaman, Rangpur divisional traffic superintendent.
