Our DVD and Blu-ray sales estimates are based on weekly retail surveys, which we use to build a weekly market share estimate for each title we are tracking. The market share is converted into a weekly sales estimate based on industry reports on the overall size of the market, including reports published inMedia Play News.
For example, if our weekly retail survey estimates that a particular title sold 1% of all units that week, and the industry reports sales of 1,500,000 units in total, we will estimate 15,000 units were sold of that title. The consumer spending estimate is based on the average sales price for the title in the retailers we survey.
We refine our estimates from week to week as more data becomes available. In particular, we adjust weekly sales figures for the quarter once the total market estimates are published by theDigital Entertainment Group. Figures will therefore fluctuate each week, and totals for individual titles can go up or down as we update our estimates.
Because sales figures are estimated based on sampling, they will be more accurate for higher-selling titles.
Full financial estimates for this film, including domestic and international box office, video sales, video rentals, TV and ancillary revenueare available through our research services. For more information, please contact us atresearch@the-numbers.com.

This year's bigOscar winner,The King's Speech, is hitting the home market this week. It leads the way in terms of quality and is likely to be the best-selling new release. It's certainly the Pick of the Week, with neither theDVD nor theBlu-ray being a substantially better deal than the other. The only other real contender is theHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part IBlu-ray / DVD Combo Pack, but that came out on Friday.More...

Well, 2010 is over and while it started amazingly, it ended on a real down note. I'm not sayingDecember was a disaster. ... Actually I am. There were only ten wide releases, and of those, eight missed expectations, some by very wide margins. Despite having a $200 million lead going into the month, 2010 still managed to lose out to 2009. The bad news continues in 2011, asAvatar made $300 million duringJanuary alone. With no strong holdovers to help power the box office, and only one or two potential solid hits among the new releases, 2011 will likely get off to a very weak start.More...
