U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign has secured its sixth congressional endorsement from his home state, landing the support of U.S. Rep. Randy Weber, a Friendswood Republican.
“We have an impressive field for the 2016 elections, but we need a president who will march into the White House on day one with their conservative values in one hand and the Constitution in the other,” Weber says in a forthcoming news release. “I believe Ted Cruz is the candidate who will do just that.”
Weber was elected in 2012 to succeed U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, the longtime congressman from Lake Jackson whose son is now vying with Cruz, the junior senator from Texas, in the GOP race for the White House. In the news release, Cruz praises Weber as “one of several new leaders we have in Congress that will stand up for conservative principles every time.”
Five other GOP members of the Texas congressional delegation have already endorsed Cruz for president:Louie Gohmert of Tyler, Michael Burgess of Fort Worth, John Culberson of Houston, John Ratcliffe of Heath and Brian Babin of Woodville.
