Sunset-seeking Wesley, 25, dies in Staffordshire beauty spot tragedy

Now more than £10k has been raised in his memory

More than £10,000 has been raised in memory of a pedestrian killed in a Staffordshire beauty spot crash. Friends and family have set a £12,000 target to pay for the funeral of Wesley Williams.

It has emerged that the 25-year-old had been 'hiking to watch the sunset' when he was struck by a Fiat at Blithfield Reservoir. He was pronounced dead at the scene on Tuesday, August 12.

Appeal organiser Melinda Williams said: "It is with broken hearts that we share the devastating news that Wesley Williams has tragically died at just 25 years old after being struck by a vehicle whilst walking along a country lane.

"Wesley was a loving son, a cherished brother, a devoted partner, and a loyal friend to so many. He loved God, had a passion for travelling, exploring nature and embraced life with warmth and kindness.

"His future was full of plans, hopes, and dreams, all heartbreakingly cut short far too soon after he went hiking to watch the sunset with his best friend and their younger siblings. Wesley was an extraordinary young man, who touched the hearts of so many people and his loss has shaken our family and community very deeply.

"Wesley was a man of God who held a strong faith and we know his wishes were to be buried. We want to honour his beliefs and give him the burial and last rites he deserves. This means we need to raise funds to ensure he is laid to rest properly, in line with his faith.

"His mother is utterly heartbroken and the pain of his loss will never truly leave those who knew him. While nothing can take away the grief we are all feeling, we believe that as a community we can come together to help lift the financial burden from his family at this unimaginably difficult time. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly towards giving Wesley the beautiful farewell he so truly deserves as well as supporting his loved ones as they try to navigate life without him.

"Thank you in advance for your kindness, your prayers, and your generosity in helping us honour Wesley’s memory."
