ST provides a large selection of Power Management ICs and System Basis Chips (SBC) specifically designed for automotive electronic systems.

In addition toinfotainment systems, instrumentation clusters, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), these highly versatile devices are tailored forUSB hubs, seats, HVAC, roof, trunk, and door modules as well as variouselectronics control units (ECU) and gateways.

    Key features:

    • Linear and switching voltage regulators
    • Physical LIN and CAN transceivers
    • High-side switches
    • Diagnostic and protection
    • Voltage monitors
    • Dedicated control bus (I2C or SPI)
    • Rail sequencing for safety applications
    • Fail-safe outputs
    • Wake-up inputs
    • All products AEC-Q100 qualified

To improve system integration, our power management ICs (e.g.SPSB081 orSPSB100) have enhanced power management functionality, including various standby modes to minimize the power consumption with programmable local and remote wake-up capability, as well as LIN and CAN-FD physical communication layers.

Automotive PMIC devices are designed to reduce component count, optimize space, and integrate all the trend functions demanded by the market.

They guarantee full diagnostics, electrical protection, and redundancy (STPM801), high current capability (STPM098C), buck/boost functionality (STPM802A), sequencing, monitoring, low power consumption mode, and selectable and multiple voltages (STPM066S,SPSA068,L5965) to satisfy all application needs.

PMICs and SBCs devices provide a SPI interface that allows the control and diagnosis of the device, enables generic software development to be integrated on microcontroller unit.

The devices offer a set of features to support applications that need to fulfill functional safety requirements as defined by the automotive safety integrity level (ASIL).

SPSB100G: advanced Power Management IC for highly integrated automotive processors

Featuring flexible SPI-programmable settings, theSPSB100G delivers reliablemulti-output power throughintegrated SMPS and LDOs, ensuring robust operation for sensors and automotive systems.

It can power the system microcontroller, an integrated CAN-FD transceiver (SPSB100G only), and external peripherals withadjustable voltage and current ranges. The SPSB100G and SPSB100GB are pre-configured from STMicroelectronics with default settings stored in the USER-NVM, which can be reprogrammed by customers as needed.

The device includes a range of features designed to meet the functional safety requirements specified by the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) standards, and supports demanding automotive environments, includingcold cranking,  start-stop, and weak battery conditions.

SPSA068: automotive Power Management IC (PMIC) for microcontroller applications

The SPSA068 is an AEC-Q100 qualified PMIC, ideal for demanding automotive environments. It features an adjustable BUCK regulator with load currents of 0.5 A and 1.0 A, and a precise voltage reference adjustable to 5.0 V, 3.3 V, or 1.2 V, all configurable via non-volatile memory (NVM). With a low quiescent current of just 50 μA in low power mode, the SPSA068 is perfect for applications requiring minimal power consumption to drive microcontrollers (MCUs) that operate from a single-supply voltage.

This Power Management IC offers a comprehensive set of features, including a programmable soft start, voltage supervisors, a spread frequency spectrum, and a reset output. It also includes an SPI interface with CRC for diagnostics and programming, along with a window watchdog to enhance functional safety. The SPSA068 is equipped with short circuit protection, thermal warning, and shutdown capabilities, ensuring robust and reliable operation.

Designed for ease of use, the SPSA068 reduces the need for external components, enhancing precision and safety as defined by automotive Safety Integrity Levels requirements (ISO 26262).

The STEVAL-SPSA068 evaluation board is available to support developers in their designs.
