Whispy Woods (ウィスピーウッズ,Whispy Woods) is a boss from theKirby universe.
Origin[edit]
Whispy Woods made its debut in the very first Kirby game,Kirby's Dream Land, where it is the very first boss. It has since become a series staple, appearing as an early boss in several games. It sometimes alternates with various other forms, such asFlowery Woods,Clanky Woods, andTropic Woods, although their relationships with Whispy Woods itself vary. Its basic attack pattern is shooting damaging puffs of air and makingapples drop: unless he has a copy ability, to defeat it Kirby mustInhale the apples and spit them back at him.
InSuper Smash Bros.[edit]
As a stage element[edit]
Whispy Woods appears in the background ofDream Land, position to the left of center. He will occasionally blow a weakstream of air from his mouth towards one side of the stage, pushing anycharacters caught in the wind away from the center of the stage. If there are characters to his right he will blow to the right, if there are characters to his left he will blow to the left, and if there are characters on either side he will pick a direction at random. The speed of the air gets weaker the further from Whispy Woods the character is.
InSuper Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
As a stage element[edit]
Whispy Woods reappears in the same role as he did inSmash 64 on thePast Stage Dream Land with the only difference being that the wind no longer gets weaker with distance.
Whispy Woods also appears in the center of the background of the stageGreen Greens. Like on Dream Land he will blow air to either side of him with the same rules, however the wind is slightly stronger. He will also shakeapples from its branches—the apples have a variety of different effects: If an apple hits a character as it falls to the ground, that character will takedamage, and when an apple lands, it becomes either a healing item or a throwing weapon.
Trophy[edit]
Whispy Woods's trophy is obtained through theLottery after clearingClassic Mode andAdventure Mode once.
- Whispy Woods
- A boss enemy from Kirby's Dream Land, Whispy Woods is a big tree that shoots whirlwinds at Kirby. It isn't the toughest enemy: all Kirby has to do is avoid the occasional whirlwind, suck in apples that fall down, and then shoot them back at the tree. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Whispy Woods is quite the blowhard.

InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]
As a stage element[edit]
Dream Land doesn't return inBrawl but Green Greens does, along with Whispy Woods. He behaves almost identically to how he did inMelee with one minor change: the wind now has an upward angle of 10 degrees. Due to the upward angle, characters fall slightly slower while in the wind, however the amount is almost negligible (about 0.04units per frame, being overpowered by evenJigglypuff'sgravity of 0.05056).

- Whispy Woods
Whispy Woods lives deep in the forest, waiting patiently for Kirby to stop by so he can share his delicious apples with the pink hero... That's not true at all, actually. Instead, he drops apples on Kirby, trying to cause him injury. He may look friendly, but remember what they say: don't judge a tree by its bark.

:Kirby's Return to Dream Land (10/2011)
In the heart of a beautiful green forest, Whispy Woods is waiting to give Kirby some juicy red apples. Isn't that nice? Well...not really, since he drops them on Kirby's head like bombs. If that wasn't bad enough, he'll also suck up the pink puffball and blast him with air. Note to self: be more wary of trees with faces.

InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
As a stage element[edit]
Both Dream Land and Green Greens appear inUltimate and Whispy Woods appears in both. On Dream Land he acts the same as in the prior games. On Green Greens he also acts the same like in the previous games but his wind was changed again. He returns to blowing at a 0 degree angle like inMelee, but the wind speed has been doubled.
As a background character[edit]
The Whispy Woods image inDream Land GB returns inUltimate.
Spirit[edit]
Whispy Woods also appears as aprimary spirit. InAdventure Mode: World of Light, his spirit is found in theMysterious Dimension sub-dungeon ofThe Dark Realm. Before his battle, the player is asked which spirits are enemies that Kirby cannot inhale, and Whispy Woods is one of two correct choices.
His Spirit Battle uses a team of five redKirby puppet fighters and is fought on Green Greens. The stage has heavy winds and the Kirby fighters gradually appear throughout the match, referencing Whispy Woods'sAir Bullet and apple dropping attacks respectively.
