Wario-Man (ワリオマン,Warioman) isWario'sFinal Smash which has him transform into Wario-Man, his costumed alter-ego fromWarioWare: Twisted! andWarioWare: Touched!, by eating bad garlic. InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl andSuper Smash Bros. 4, Wario-Man can be freely controlled, moving and attacking normally with a moveset similar to Wario's. InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, the player initiates a rush forward, which can trap opponents and trigger a single flurry of blows with comical effects before the Final Smash ends.

Overview[edit]

InBrawl andSmash 4[edit]

InBrawl andSmash 4, Wario takes a bite of garlic and turns into Wario-Man while laughing. The transformation is somewhat similar toBowser's. During the Final Smash, all of his moves are upgraded greatly, being extremely fast and strong and having decreased ending lag. All of his throws are able to KO opponents above 70%. Wario-Man's attacks deal more damage and knockback, and he's virtuallyinvincible, which even includes being immune tofootstool jumps. However, he can still be affected byBrawl's randomtripping, take damage byeating explosive items or goingoff-screen, and be affected by size changing items, such as theSuper Mushroom andPoison Mushroom. Also, Wario-Man is unaffected byMetal Boxes.

Wario-Man's mobility is also increased greatly, enabling him torun just as fast asSonic the Hedgehog, and he has the highestair speed of any fighter inBrawl. InSmash 4, Wario-Man's mobility remains mostly unchanged, but his status as the fighter with the fastest air speed is given toGiga Mac instead.

All of Wario-Man's aerial attacks, except hisdown aerial, cause him to gain altitude without entering helpless mode, giving him unlimited recovery. This also means that Wario-Man can easily perform bothHyrule Jumps. However, since his aerials make him gain altitude in a set path, an effectivewall of pain is not possible. All of his aerials can be strung together for a rather ridiculous-looking upward movement.

Wario Waft charges faster, and a fully charged Wario Waft from Wario-Man can dealone-hit KOs under normal circumstances, though the half charge one is unaffected. Hisbike becomes so fast that it can outrun the cars inBig Blue, and must be jumped off almost immediately to avoidself destructing on smaller stages. Additionally, Wario'sCorkscrew deals electrokinetic damage to any fighter it hits.

Once the duration of the Final Smash is up, Wario-Man will spin in place while surrounded by a ball of light, causing him to revert back to Wario. Immediately after transforming back, Wario will perform an animation, during which he is brieflyintangible. On the ground, Wario will get up and brush dirt off himself, and in the air Wario will spin in place while posing with his mouth open. InBrawl, Wario will make a loud, echoing "Oooooh..." right after transforming back, while he stays silent inSmash 4.

It is interesting to note that Wario-Man's moves that normally can only be used once can be used again when he transforms back into Wario. For example, if Wario-Man does aCorkscrew and then transforms back into Wario in mid-air, it's possible to Corkscrew a second time without touching the ground. Also, if Wario-Man transforms back into Wario while wielding aHammer or aGolden Hammer, the Hammer will restart its process over again, allowing the player to double the amount of time they can use the hammer. Occasionally, because the process restarts itself, the player may end up getting a headless hammer or a squeaky Golden Hammer afterwards.

The transformation lasts for 16 seconds inBrawl and 12 seconds inSmash 4.

InUltimate[edit]

InUltimate, the move has Wario charge forward after eating the garlic. If the rush connects, a cutscene plays where he turns into Wario-Man and unleashes a barrage of attacks accompanied by comical text and effects, ending with a fart that launches up to three trapped opponents (the initial hit loses its hitbox upon hitting the third opponent, but more opponents can be hit if struck at the same time, although only the first three hit will be affected by the cinematic). TheUltimate version of Wario-Man joins all former "transformed moveset" Final Smashes (such asGiga Bowser andGiga Mac) in losing its player-controlled moveset in favor of a quick attack that returns players more promptly to normal gameplay.

Instructional quotes[edit]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl instruction bookletWario (SSBB)Take a big bite of garlic and transform. He still uses normal attacks in this form but all are dramatically powered up. Stay airborne by using midair attacks.
Super Smash Bros. UltimateMove ListWario (SSBU)Wario wolfs down garlic and delivers a headbutt. Any foes hit by the headbutt are forced to deal with multiple Wario-Men's striking fists of justice. Finally, Wario-Man launches the foes with carefully stored flatulence. After transforming into Wario Man, he splits himself into copies that attack all at once. The final fart isn't affected by the charge of his down-special fart.

  • BuffForward tilt deals more damage (14%/13%/12% → 17%/16%/15%) and knockback (22 (base), 98 (scaling) → 35/100), and no longer has less-damaging sourspots.
  • BuffUp tilt deals more damage (10%/6% → 15%/12%).
  • Nerf Up tilt's late hit has a shorter duration (frames 15-23 → 15-18).
  • BuffDown tilt deals more damage (8% → 9%), has higher knockback scaling (60 → 90), and is now an extremely powerfulsemi-spike (65° → 10°), making it excellent for edgeguarding.
  • BuffDash attack deals more damage (7%/5% → 12%).
  • NerfForward smash deals less damage (19% → 16%) without full compensation on its knockback scaling (77 → 90).
  • Buff Forward smash covers much more distance, to the point where Wario continuously moves forward during the animation.

  • BuffForward aerial deals more damage (7% (clean), 4% (late) → 15%/11%) and is much more effective as awall of pain due to its larger hitboxes/lower ending lag, Wario-Man's higher air speed, and the fact that forward aerial now gives Wario-Man extra height and combos into itself extremely easily. The late hit also has a longer duration (frames 7-17 → 7-19) and has higher knockback scaling (80 → 90), although the clean hit has reduced knockback scaling (100 → 90).
  • BuffBack aerial deals more damage (10% → 15%/11%), although it has reduced knockback scaling (100 → 90) and now has a sourspot, giving the move a longer duration. It is also much more effective as a wall of pain for the same reasons as forward aerial.
  • BuffUp aerial deals slightly more damage (17% → 18%), has higher base knockback (30 → 35), and combos into itself extremely easily, making it an incredible damage racking tool.
  • ChangeDown aerial is now astall then fall consisting of ameteor smash and a landing hitbox.

  • BuffCorkscrew gains more height and now consists of two powerful electric hits which deal more damage (19% → 28%).
  • Buff Fully chargedWario Waft deals more damage (40% → 50%) and now has much more knockback (50 (base), 30 (scaling) → 0/100), making it anOHKO. Wario Waft also charges faster, and its half and fully charged variants have larger hitboxes (11u → 13u).

Origin[edit]

Wario-Man originates fromWarioWare: Twisted! andWarioWare: Touched!, appearing as the alter-ego for Wario. In both games, once the player has beaten all of the microgame compilations from the other characters, the player unlocks Wario-Man'smicrogame compilation. InWarioWare: Twisted, Wario transforms into Wario-Man after falling intoDr. Crygor's invention: theGravitator, while inWarioWare: Touched! Wario transforms after consuming a rotten piece of garlic, later namedmandrake in subsequentWarioWare titles, which inspired the animation of Wario-Man's transformation seen inSmash (minus the fact that he eats a regular head of garlic inSmash, as opposed to a mandrake). This "new character" then appears on the main menu with a brand new set of microgames available to attempt. Wario-Man's games were the last of its kind both times and were more challenging than the preceding games. Wario-Man also appears in the introductory level ofWarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase.

Through out multiple scenes inTwisted andTouched, Wario-Man exhibits some kind of superhuman abilities, such as the ability to fly, as well as having him say he is stronger and more resistant than before; however, most of his powers inSmash are more likely derived from typical superhero/super-villain powers in general comic books and other media. In addition, the stylized graphics seen in the version of his Final Smash inUltimate are also derived from these kinds of media.

Even though Wario-Man is invincible inSuper Smash Bros., he was actually shown to be harmed in theWarioWare games, such as being attacked by Orbulon's spaceship inTwisted and getting launched by a train inTouched.Touched portrays Wario-Man as being outright weak and a downgrade from regular Wario, struggling to lift a small rock, having "flight" limited to just shuffling his belly on the ground, and having to resort to bragging about his strength only in relation to fragile items such as doughnuts, burritos, and cardboard.

Trivia[edit]

An icon for denoting incomplete things. This article or section is incomplete. You can help SmashWiki byexpanding or finishing it.
The editor who added this tag elaborates:Do all the quirks of hacked playable Wario-Man in Brawl also apply to his hacked Smash 4 counterpart?
  • Along with Wario's down tilt becoming much faster fromBrawl toSSB4, Wario-Man's down tilt is arguably the quickest attack in the entire series (especially among moves requiring multiple button presses), with the entire move lasting just a fraction of a second.
  • While normal Wario normally wears theFranklin Badge andScrew Attack on his nose, Wario-Man wears them on his stomach.
  • Wario-Man is available as a separate character through hacking, although when he is KO'd, he reverts back into Wario. At the end of a match, the game will freeze if he has not reverted into normal Wario due to having no results screen animations. Once reverted, he will not be able to transform back into Wario-Man unless he uses theSmash Ball. The transformation will then function normally, reverting Wario-Man back into normal Wario after a period of time.
  • For whatever reason, the speed multiplier ofTraining Mode does not affect how long (in real time) Wario-Man lasts. This also applies toMega Lucario, but notGiga Mac.
    • Oddly, as ofSuper Smash Bros. 4, while Giga Bowser's time limit is now based on the amount of frames that have played, Wario-Man's duration is still based on how many real time seconds have passed.
  • InBrawl, when Wario-Man charges his smashes, they will make a sound effect different from regular Wario's charging sound effect.
  • Wario's bike disappears upon the move's usage.
  • InBrawl, whenever Wario-Man jumps from a ledge, he only jumps vertically with no horizontal momentum. This means that if he jumps from a ledge and the player does not press move left or right, he will grab onto the ledge again after he falls.
  • InBrawl, size changing items affect Wario-Man's damage multiplier differently than with most other fighters. For an example, acquiring aSuper Mushroom causes Wario-Man's direct attacks to deal around 1.8x their normal damage, instead of the usual 1.56x. He shares this trait with his regular version (Wario),Samus,Fox,Falco,Wolf,Captain Falcon,Squirtle,Ivysaur,Lucario, andSnake.
  • InBrawl, using a Smash Ball as Wario-Man (via playing as him through hacking) will revert him to normal Wario.
